Should Work be your Passion?
I am always in admiration when I meet someone truly passionate about their work. Whether it's a longevity researcher seeking eternal life or a New York taxi driver dedicated to making each journey memorable, their enthusiasm is inspiring.
That's why I am puzzled when people question the value of being passionate about your work. Critics argue that most of us won't find a job that aligns with our passions, or that it leads to less enjoyment of free time, neglect of our children, or increased burnout. While I doubt the validity of the last three arguments, I'll focus on the first one: the claim that most people will fail to find passion in their jobs, as currently, less than a third of the workforce is fully engaged.
This argument is akin to saying that if you have a 60% chance of dying from cardiovascular disease due to genetic predisposition, you shouldn't take any preventive measures.
I believe that work should absolutely be your passion.
The real issue I believe is not being clear on how to achieve this.
